Have you ever been in a situation that made you feel less than, because of particular words that were spoken directly to you? Or on the flip-side where you said things that you instantly regretted saying, the moment that it left your lips? Words can lift us up or tear us down depending on whether or not we choose to use them wisely. Plus in certain situations we need to be a sounding board instead of a good listener.
HERE IS WHY. . .
Just like all things in life, words have an energy and vibration to them plus they can have an affect on the way we think, feel or perceive an idea. They account for much more than communication and writing because they have a powerful force behind them full of emotion and feeling. . .but by saying or hearing - higher vibration words, you can be made to feel happy, pleased and excited. Where as lower vibration/ negative words can make you feel the opposite. Even when it comes to words or phrases that you say to yourself can either be empowering and encouraging or it can be toxic and destructive.
Even gossiping has an energy that may have a karmic response to it. Have you ever walked into a room of other people that were having a conversation, and you instantly get the distinct feeling that they were just talking about you? Its the energy and vibration from the conversation making you aware of that.
You may even feel completely drained after talking to certain people who love to complain, yell or use vulgar language. It is the energy from the negative words that is sucking the good energy right out of you! Once that person is done spilling all of their rubbish, they feel much better, but you on the other hand feel exhausted because you've just soaked up all of their crumby energy.
Whether you are thinking or talking to yourself or to another person be choosy about what you say. Rise above the negativity of others! Remove yourself from situations and people that nag and complain and remember that you get to decide what you let seep into your brain. What you think sinks into the chemistry of your body, so instead of having your words work against you, use the power of positive words as a benefit to your energy.

Just like the start of a new habit, it will take time to change your thoughts and actions. At first you will need to remind yourself throughout the day to be conscious of what you are telling yourself. But in time, you will start to notice a shift in your balance stemming from the higher vibration of affirming words, giving you power and strength.
